Bullish SG Market Outlook + Seeking Shelter in Defensive & Quality Stocks

The Singapore market has done well this year relative to regional and global peers. Despite the strong macroeconomic headwinds, we believe that investors should remain engaged in equities. We will present our views on where the STI could be headed and our top stock picks.

Since our recommendation in the previous Analyst Week in Jan 2022, one of our top picks, BRC Asia has seen its share price rallied by more than 10%. We believe the small / mid cap segment will enjoy a recovery in the second half of 2022, after a poor first half performance where the FTSE ST Small Cap Index has fallen by around 10% YTD. The key drivers of the recovery include reduced hawkishness of US Fed after a heavy front loading rate hike, easing of inflation pressure and further reopening of Singapore economy.
