Speakers: Adrian Loh & John Cheong

We will reveal small/mid cap gems that could potentially outperform the STI Index and discuss on the Singapore Market Outlook. Two out of three of our top picks in the previous webinar have shown positive return as market sentiment improved due to positive developments on the geopolitical front and interest rate expectation (CSE +5%, Food Empire +1%, Macrco Polo -4%,). The positive developments of war in the Middle East and improving expectation of interest rate environment have brought some positive news for the market but several uncertainties are still on the horizon.

7.30pm - 7.50pm: Break

From Covid-19 and zero interest rates, we then had inflation and rapid-fire Fed rate hikes to battle it. In 2024, a return to normalcy is on the cards - while there will be challenges ahead, there will also be many opportunities.

Session 2: Aviation, SG Banks & HK Market Outlook

18 Jan 2024 | Thursday | 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Venue: Online Webinar

Programme

6.30pm - 6.50pm: Aviation

Speaker: Roy Chen

Most of the aviation names are poised to enter the final phase of post-pandemic recovery by the first half of 2024. Singapore Airlines' profits are set to dip from their 2023 peak due to an anticipated moderation in airfare driven by competition, outweighing the positive impact of enhanced traffic. In contrast, aviation service companies are expected to perform better, driven by improving business volume and steady or better service pricing.

6.50pm - 7.10pm: Singapore Banks

Speaker: Jonathan Koh

Prospects for a soft landing have increased, while the risk of a hard landing has diminished as inflation continues to recede gradually. Banks benefit from the continued economic expansion. Growth in fee income is expected to mitigate the negative impact from NIM compression as interest rates potentially dip starting 2H24. Singapore banks can better weather geopolitical volatilities due to strong capital adequacy and stable asset quality. DBS and OCBC appeal to value investors with their recurrent and attractive 2024 dividend yield of about 6%.

7.10pm - 7.30pm: HK Market Outlook

Speaker: Curtis Yeung

The Hong Kong stock market underperformed in 2023. Looking forward into 2024, the Chinese economy will see a gradual climb higher in 2024, with private consumption providing much of the heavy lifting. Policy easing will be incremental, focusing on the real estate sector and local government financing. How should investors draw up their investment plans?

7.30pm - 8.30pm: Q&A Session with Roy, Jonathan & Curtis
