Bullish SG Market Outlook + Seeking Shelter in Defensive & Quality Stocks

5 July 2022 | Tuesday | 6.30pm – 7.30pm

The Singapore market has done well this year relative to regional and global peers. Despite the strong macroeconomic headwinds, we believe that investors should remain engaged in equities. We will present our views on where the STI could be headed and our top stock picks.

Since our recommendation in the previous Analyst Week in Jan 2022, one of our top picks, BRC Asia has seen its share price rallied by more than 10%. We believe the small / mid cap segment will enjoy a recovery in the second half of 2022, after a poor first half performance where the FTSE ST Small Cap Index has fallen by around 10% YTD. The key drivers of the recovery include reduced hawkishness of US Fed after a heavy front loading rate hike, easing of inflation pressure and further reopening of Singapore economy.

Recovery on Track for Aviation + Bond Yields Staying Higher for Longer

7 July 2022 | Thursday | 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Global air travel is expected to recover to the pre-pandemic levels by 2024. However, the paces of recovery are expected to be uneven across different geographies and different parts of the aviation value chain. We will present an update on our view on the aviation sector recovery and address relevant Singapore aviation plays to ride the recovery.

Structural changes cause persistent and elevated inflation, which leads to bond yields staying higher for longer. Interest rates are on the rise. We believe that NIM expansion is expected to be the key driver of earnings growth for Singapore banks as liquidity is tightened and the Fed institutes a series of interest rate hikes.

No Tech Thursday + Selecting the Right Fund for Your Portfolio

14 July 2022 | Thursday | 6.30pm – 7.30pm

We are not going to talk about tech stocks which have gotten enough attention. Instead we will do a focus on four non-tech US stocks which are popular with Singaporean investors. Let us examine how high inflation, rising interest rates and a slowing economy will impact their earnings, and discuss whether their share prices have already overreacted to potential bad news.

2022 has proved to be a challenging start for both equity and bond investors. Persistently high inflation, slower economic growth, and a trajectory for higher interest rates remain at the center stage. For investors who are looking for portfolio diversification, we will share fund ideas to complement with Paul's “No Tech Thursday” session.
